I love this picture. Now I am not saying that just because my son, Yoni,
captured a treasured moment. This is a moment frozen in the time of
relativity, enjoyed in subjective terms, thrilling, connecting us to
each other and both of us to our surroundings, past, present and future.
Blessed the wintertime sky and the gray sameness that hovers over the
city and lake, the park and the Interstates. Bless the flash of gold,
the roaring so swiftly forward, the daily commute to and from and the
chance encounter with elements seen, felt and heard. Blessed is the way
we make art from the mundane. Blessed is our life enriched when the
mundane becomes extraordinary. I wonder: what is mundane?
Blessed is this young man who points his camera towards treasured
moments. Blessed is his will to know his world and to tame it. Blessed
is his ability to sense the intergenerational significance of a passing
elevated train. Bless the CTA.
